More about online dating

I did a search on a dating site for men that fit the criteria that I’m looking for with respect to age and location and one guy’s status says that he’s married.

I’m so glad that he’s not letting a small thing like marriage stop him from looking for love :)

There are two schools of thought when it comes to paying for online dating services:

You get what you pay for and if you pay, you’ll likely get guys/girls who are seriously looking and are willing to put their money where their advert is.

I can go out and find love anywhere so I’m not paying for something I could get for free.

I can see both arguments but I agree most with the first one, and I think as people get older or at least leave environments where they see and possibly meet new people every day, it just makes sense. Sure, you could go out and meet someone tomorrow, but unless you are in college/university or work for a big corporation where there are dozens or even hundreds of eligible members of the opposite sex in your age range, it’s pretty hard to meet someone you’ll be compatible with, otherwise most of us would be hooked up by now.

And that is why online dating can work. You can decide to only look for people who live in your state, province or city, and all of a sudden have access to people you may have seen on the bus, passed in a mall, or you could even meet someone who already knows a friend of yours. The internet and online dating shrink the world and put people that we might not ordinarily meet in our field of vision. Also, it allows us to get to know people that we would ordinarily reject based on looks alone (you see his average looks and think “next!” but then you read his intelligent and funny profile, exchange humourous messages and all of a sudden looks aren’t so important and you just want to get to know the guy.

A lot of online dating sites are free to join and search, but the minute you want to contact an eligible man and tell him how hot fine his body mind is, get ready to whip out your credit card.

So far, I haven’t spent money on dating sites but I’m tempted to. The only thing holding me back is the fear of wasting money: what if despite spending the money on a site to contact people, I still get rejected because I don’t have a model’s body? The fear of rejection sucks!

Even so, I don’t plan to let that hold me back for too much longer. I’ll have to make a move soon.

You definitely will have to make a choice soon…*crosses fingers and prays that she chooses to start paying*

@ Rayokins and stbloke – I think the main reason I’m having difficulty paying deserves an entry of its own. I need to get off my butt and lose some weight and I fear that even with paying, I’ll still not be found attractive.

(lol, “Oh woe is me”, right?)
